Originally from Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, Steve Gibb has called the USA home since 2000. A
classically trained guitarist, he began his studies at Napier College (now Napier University) in Edinburgh
before earning a place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under
Hector Quine and Timothy Walker, while also receiving instruction from John Williams and Julian Bream.
During his time there, he was awarded the John Mundy Prize for ‘Excellence in the Playing of a Stringed
Instrument,’ surpassing many top violinists and cellists. He made his London debut at The Purcell Room,
Southbank Centre, as part of the Park Lane Group Young Concert Artist Series, premiering Two
Motets by Michael Finnissy. Several composers have written works specifically for him, including Nigel
Clark, who composed Dragon Dances.
Throughout his career, Steve has performed with a diverse range of artists, including Il Divo, The Doo-
Wop Project, John Turturro, Eartha Kitt, Petula Clark, Britney Spears, Ritchie Blackmore, and Meat Loaf.
His performances have taken him to major venues worldwide, where he has played for both royalty and
presidents alike.
In 1993, Steve expanded his career into musical theatre, starring as an actor/musician in BUDDY – The
Buddy Holly Story in London’s West End, where he also served as the show's Musical Director. Since
moving to the U.S., he has become a sought-after Broadway guitarist, performing in hit shows such
as Jersey Boys, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, Dear Evan Hansen, School of
Rock, and Shucked. His guitar work will also be featured in the upcoming Jersey Boys movie, starring
Nick Jonas as Frankie Valli.
As a composer, Steve’s music has been featured in numerous television and film productions across
networks including HBO, ABC, NBC, CBS, VH1, MTV, National Geographic, Bravo, Comedy Central,
Discovery, Showtime, TNT, PBS, and many more worldwide. In recognition of his contributions to music,
he was honored as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) by his alma mater.
Alongside his performing and composing career, Steve is also a much sought-after guitar teacher, known
for his ability to inspire and guide students of all levels. His deep musical knowledge, combined with his
passion for the instrument, has made him a highly respected educator among aspiring and professional
guitarists alike.
Since the pandemic, Steve has focused on his solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar work, releasing three
critically acclaimed albums. His debut album, The Boatman (2021), was praised by Blair Jackson
of Acoustic Guitar Magazine as “beautiful, deep, and soulful – a winner on every level” and was
named The Ark of Music’s "Album of the Year" for 2021. His follow-up, Island of Woods (2023), further
solidified his reputation, and his latest release, Circles of Light, has already received widespread acclaim.
